When the morning of the 18th October arrived I was excited. You see, it was my lovely Mum’s birthday. We do see each other quite regularly, however we still make the best of the time we spend together. We decided to head off into the depths of Norfolk for a minor celebration of our own.
We didn’t do anything too strenuous as we were all heading off for a family meal later in the evening, so made the most of the morning we had. Our plan included stopping at a local market town for tea and cake and to meet the local hotel resident cat, Burt.
We filled up on delicious plum and almond cake. Beautifully baked, think Mary Berry style. Slightly healthy with plums, right? Well at least it is laced with fruit. Must be healthy surely? Who I am kidding hey? Makes me feel better telling myself it is packed with juicy plums instead of chocolate!
After our mid morning feast we went on the hunt for the elusive Burt. He is resident at the hotel, a stones throw away from the coffee shop, where we filled up on cake. Mum has often mentioned this beautiful cat, resembling a teddy bear, with black ears, tail and feet. A distinctive and distinguished fellow.
We stumbled across this gorgeous lad in the hotel garden hiding under the shrubbery. Full of beans. It was very windy and he was pouncing on everything that moved, including my camera. After an entertaining encounter with Burt, Mum and I headed off to a local plant nursery to stock up on foliage for our gardens.
The morning was filled with everything we love. Country air, delicious cakes and a cat. A lovely time was had by all, even Burt.
