2014 has been a year full of makeup discoveries and marvels. Many products have surprised me, some great, some not so. We’ve already covered skincare. Skin should be tip top by now, so its time to beautify that lovely face with some great makeup picks.
For the majority of the year I have been reaching for Chanel’s Aqua Vitalumiere Foundation. Providing lightweight, beautiful coverage. Ideal for dry skin, this foundation is beautiful to blend, leaves skin looking flawless and lovely.
For a cheaper option giving similar results, one of my favourite finds of the year is from Rimmel. Loving the original 25 hour foundation, I was actually excited when they released the nude version. A lovely, blendable foundation, giving light coverage, which leaves skin luminous. Did I mention the staying power? It is amazing!
On the powder front it has been left to Bourjois’ Healthy Balance and Soap and Glory’s One Heck of a Blot. Both lightweight, finely milled and stopping that midday shine. Needing something longer lasting on the foundation front and with full coverage, head to your nearest Estee Lauder counter. Doublewear has long been a firm favourite and was reviewed in one of my very first posts. Beautiful to blend, covers effortlessly and lasts all day. Still among my top 3 foundations. A fabulous face perfector. To conceal any problem areas, I have ditched Collection’s Lasting Perfection for the majority of the year and have been using Origins Plantscription. Perfect for every day, non cakey and the lasting power is pretty good too. When I have needed slightly more coverage, for under the eyes, Maybelline’s Eraser has been a real mate. Creamy and easy to blend, this has been a lifesaver for the morning after any sleepness nights. So step aside Collection, there are two new kids in town!
This year Nars Laguna has been top of the bronzing list. The only product I have hit pan on, well loved and provides a beautiful bronze glow. Applied with a light hand, this is perfect for any skin tone. Soap and Glory’s Solar Powder is the budget two-toned option. Purse friendly and definitely on the repurchase list, I was reaching for this more than Laguna towards the end of the year.
Moving away from the bronzed glow, I decided to pick up Benefit’s Majorette blush. Amazing packaging which gives a lovely coral flush to the skin. The lasting power is impressive too.
Frat Boy recently featured in my November favourites. The most perfect pinky blush. Highly pigmented. I purchased this towards the end of the year and love it! So Susan’s Universal Blush was the one to provide a lovely sheen and glow to the skin. This featured in a Glossybox back at the beginning of the year.
Kevyn Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder changed my life! Not literally, but changed my makeup application for sure. His taupe-toned magic powder was the one to finally give me cheek bones.
My love of lip gloss meant that my lip collection grew this year. Tanya Burr’s influential status persuaded me to try her new make-up line. Picnic in the Park was my absolute favourite. A pretty, sweet scented gloss, which leaves lips looking a little better than your own. Maybelline’s ColorSensational Lip glosses and MAC’s Deelight have been used on more than one occasion. This is the ultimate gloss for me. Incredibly shiny and the colour gives you perfect bee-stung lips. Perfect with any eye look. For a bolder lip Nars Red Square was my go to, for a nude option MAC’s Patisserie and for the pinker choice Chatterbox featured heavily. I discovered Nuxe Reve De Miel. The most perfect, moisturising lip balm, For the cheaper option Vaseline’s Queen Bee has been a great every day staple. Moving on to the eyes, there have only been a few products which I have reached for time and time again. First off to sort out the brows I have been loving Benefit’s ‘Gimme Brow’. For a stronger brow and to keep them in place all day MAC’s Brow Set has been the one to impress me.
I’m a neutral eyed girl all the way. Eyeshadow wise, this is a no-brainer. Urban Decay’s Naked 2. I just wonder how many times this will feature on a favourites video on YouTube or indeed a blog post? Let me know if it’s on your list. For something more on the pricey side Charlotte Tilbury’s buttery Dolce Vita palette is stunning. A real winner, especially for those evening parties over Christmas. To sort out the lashes I have once again been loyal to YSL Babydoll mascara, and the pretty impressive (almost a dupe) Bourjois One Second Mascara. Both give non-clumpy, long, fluttery, jet black lashes, with no hint of clumping or flaking in sight. MAC’s Coppering and Woodwinked eye-shadows have often been smudged under and around the eyes for a little definition, instead of liner. Surprisingly I do not actually have an eyeliner to feature this year. Not one for heavily lined lashes (as for one I have come to the conclusion it does not entirely suit me), I much prefer a smudged look. This is certainly just a snapshot of my favourites, however if there any I have missed, as this could be highly likely, I apologise to those forgotten, amazing products.
