My current wardrobe staples, a natty eyeshadow palette and a Cult Gaia dupe.
As the weather picks up (we hope), Summer is on the way. We have to stay positive. It will be warm, sunny and we can once again eat ice-cream in parks and drink Pimms in beer gardens.
You know how we like to talk about the great British weather? Well providing the weather is good, we can also rethink our summer wardrobe and possibly add any missing items.
A Statement Bag
Cult Gaia’s Ark bag has been everywhere. The unusual shape, style and bamboo finish is beautiful, perfect for both the city and the beach. Ark will add sass to pretty much any semi-casual outfit.
Not one to spend a fortune on trend-led items (not sure how much I will be talking about this next year), Very are currently selling an identical dupe.
I bought Cult Gaia’s version just to get the measure of it, intending to send it back straight away, which I did. It was lovely, however I was not investing that much into a reed style bag, which could quite possibly be used for just one season.
Very’s version is a worthy replacement and to any onlooker a worthy adversary for the Cult Gaia. This will go well with summer dresses, denim and a t-shirt.
A little fun injected into an outfit and £100 cheaper than the original (I couldn’t find a link for this, sorry – just the CG version – see below for ‘Shop My Post’).
Clothes wise my wardrobe doesn’t alter much come Summer. There’s still an array of basic t-shirts, denim, a few lighter fabrics but mostly neutral colours. Stripes and floral prints feature heavily.
When I came across this striped skirt (Sainsbury’s Tu) I couldn’t help myself. Serving serious denim skirt vibes but with a very subtle stripe, this is perfect with basic tops, a white linen shirt and brown Saint Laurent style sandals.
Round bags, particularly straw are everywhere. If you regularly surf Instagram it would be hard to miss. Topshop, Mango and ASOS are among the top stores which sell a variety of different straw bags to suit all styles.
Wanting to buy into the trend a little, I opted for this ultra plain bag. It was only £30 and I’m hoping I will flit between this and my CG dupe all summer.
Also as the design is very plain I get the feeling it will stand the test of time and I will be able to use next year. That is until we have a downpour, the straw is saturated and strawy is sent to bag heaven.
Every girl needs a pair of statement sunglasses. Your best bet? Head to Primark. There’s every style, colour and shape you can imagine. Designer inspired. Think Rayban, Dior So Real and Chloe. Between £1-3, you can play around with your look.
Find a style that suits you. It doesn’t matter if you sit on them or they get lost on the beach. You may find something that makes you feel all sassy and then invest in the real deal.
To keep your sunglasses in, invest in a snazzy case. Let’s face it the case you get with £1 glasses is highly unlikely to be well made and durable. H and M currently have tonnes to choose from. Palm print and I’m sold. This was under £10 and is sturdy enough to protect any glasses in your bag.
For your feet, Primark come up trumps again. Stripes and bows. These slider-esque style flats are perfect for the warm months. Think tanned feet and polished nails and these will work a treat when you are having a casual day. Quite sure they will end up in the bin by the end of summer but worth the cheap price tag all the same.
Travel Friendly Neutral Eyeshadow Palette
I never wear a full face of makeup in the Summer and tend to stick to the essentials. For the evenings out when I do wish to amp it up a little, a neutral palette is a staple in my makeup bag.
When I came across L’Oreal’s La Petite Palette (shade Nudist) in 5 wearable shades. 4 earthy warm tones and a statement burgundy, I knew this would be perfect for those nights I wanted to amp up the intensity and for days when I wanted a neutral look.
A girl needs a great fragrance. All year round I lean towards fresh, fruity and sometimes floral scents. On the occasion I wish to smell clean and well just like me, I spritz Glossier’s You. Me just more sparkly. Sass in a bottle.
Expect to see these items all over Instagram this summer. What do you have to have in your wardrobe when it’s warm? Is there anything you have your eye on or anything you have invested in lately? Please drop a comment below, I’d love to hear from you.
