Looking for a lightweight base this Summer? Fed up with heavy foundations? I have you covered (literally)!
Ok, ok, ok I have let you down. I promised without fail to post twice a week and over the last few days it just hasn’t happened. No excuses, other than I have been enjoying the football, Love Island (anyone else think Megan should go back to stripping…), Wimbledon, sunshine, BBQ’s, the beach and generally lazy summer evenings too much. The last thing I could think of was sitting at the keyboard!
It’s now Saturday, 05:58 (dedication indeed), we have a big family BBQ tomorrow and I need to clean the house, stock up on tonnes of booze and food. Then the football is on at 3pm. England V’s Sweden if you didn’t know!
With all this hot weather I have been using less and less makeup daily. For the times I do fancy a little coverage or (take tomorrow for instance) when I want my skin to look it’s absolute best, I have been reaching for fairly lightweight bases. Apart from the fact I don’t want to clog my pores with heavy foundation, it literally would just melt off anyway.
If you’re looking for a new base to put on that face, keep on reading!
The Glowy One: Chanel Les Beiges – SPF25
Chanel’s Les Beige (B20) Healthy Glow Gel Touch Cushion Foundation is fairly new to my foundation wardrobe. The sleek compact make this perfect for on-the-go. The coverage is fairly sheer but easy to build. Les Beige is easy to blend into the skin to leave a smooth and virtually undetectable finish. It lasts fairly well (even in the heat) and when it does fade it does so evenly. Les Beiges leaves the loveliest finish to the skin with a subtle glow. My skin is left looking like the best version of itself with the most beautiful sheen. If you’re looking for the most perfect summer foundation, I’m convinced you won’t quibble with me, when I say this is it!
WEAR ON: Extremely good skin days.
The Daily One: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua – SPF15
Les Beige’s sister Vitalumiere Aqua (B20) has been a favourite in my collection for a long time. Vitalumiere Aqua offers slightly more coverage than Les Beige in traditional liquid form. The finish is similar and again the formula buildable. VA leaves skin looking flawless but rather remarkably dewy and non cakey. Two blobs of this cover the whole face and the formula does last a little longer than Les Beiges.
Both Chanel foundations allow skin to breathe, ideal to wear in this heatwave we are having.
WEAR: Daily. Perfect for coffee catch-ups and evening BBQ’s.
The Long Lasting One: Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude – SPF30
For a long wearing base I used to choose Estee Lauder’s Doublewear without fail. It lasted and lasted. Hot, sticky office at work? It had you covered. Long tube ride across London town? It was there. Dancing (badly) into the wee hours? It had your back. I loved it for years especially in my early-mid twenties. Unlike men, it never let me down!
Not so many moons ago I did discover something new which was even more suited to me. I have always had good skin. 99% of the time I’m blemish free and lucky to have never really suffered with spots. With this is mind, sometimes I felt Double Wear was a little too heavy. I always loved the formula and the lasting power – well let’s just say there’s nothing out there (that I have discovered anyway) that’s quite like it. I realise now I bought this more for the lasting power than for the finish. So when Estee Lauder introduced Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup I was fairly sure this would be the long laster I had been after.
It blends beautifully into the skin and as the name would suggest is a lightweight water based formula. The coverage is much lighter than the original Double Wear yet still buildable. For the days you need something to last, this does. It lasts all day.
If I want a base which will keep my skin looking fresh all day (no touch ups required), Double Wear Nude is the one I reach for time and time again. Planning a long day out in the hot city or on a warm sandy beach? Double Wear Nude will long out-last those mojitos!
WEAR: If you plan on conquering the world.
Are any of these foundations in your collection? Is there a lightweight base I’m missing out on and must try? And do you have any drugstore recommendations?
