It’s time for an update, maybe a long one. I’d say grab a drink, but everyone says that. Grab a bar of Dairy Milk, supersize bag of Haribo or a big bowl of fruit.
So first off, I hope everyone is tickety-boo. What a wonderful Summer we have had this year. Of course, i’m talking weather wise. Us Brits, we aren’t used to temperatures in excess of 30! It’s been a hot one and most of us have complained at some point or another that it’s quite frankly too hot. Others have reached for the fake tan on more than one occasion to try and keep up with the tanned pins on the streets. And for those who have complained, the very next sentence starts with, ‘but we can’t moan, there will soon be rain and then we will start moaning about that’. Us Brits, never happy.
In light of the fabulous weather we have been having I have found it hard to keep up with the writing. Picture taking? No problems, I have been spotted out and about taking tonnes of photos around the Norfolk countryside and hoping normal service of posting twice a week will resume soon – although not sure on the days yet!
I must admit I had been somewhat distracted with Love Island, the World Cup, Wimbledon, eating ice-cream and sitting in the garden late into the evening being bitten to death by horseflies. Had to go to A and E – apparently this has been common this year, with local GP’s refusing to treat nasty fly bites!
Things I have discovered this summer….
Less really is more
My skin has thanked me for the sunshine. Less makeup and using a simplified skincare routine has improved the texture of my skin. So much so I will leave the house without foundation and feel completely confident. My skin looks radiant and feels great. New skincare favourites are coming very soon to BBB.
You don’t have to spend money to be happy
Mum and I made a pact around 2/3 months ago not to spend anything on clothes or non-essentials until September. My house is less cluttered, my bank balance higher and I feel happier as I am using things that I already have and wearing clothes I had forgotten about. I really do get a great feeling inside not being so wasteful and to know I am saving a little money. I constantly tell myself would I rather have this bag/tshirt/shoes I will never wear, or put it towards my travels next year? And travel plans win every time!
I’m really enjoying work
I had a little break this year (nearly 5 months) when I had an operation on my hand. I have found a job I love, working with great people and a cat who lies on my keyboard most days. It’s busy, down the road and admin based.
Ginger Tea rocks
It’s especially tasty with a dash of honey. And tastes like it’s doing your insides good. I don’t drink it all the time, but if you like tea this is definitely worth trying. Pukka’s version is my fave!!
I have a recipe for granola and coconut balls which I cannot wait to make
As soon as I have everything I need to make these with I will (hopefully) be posting, as long as the photos come out ok.
Kind of over Instagram
It does nothing for me. I struggle with followers, views and comments. Damn you, algorithm. One day my followers are at 3100 (quite a common number), the next 3080, 3800 on the third day. By the end of the week I’m back to 3020. What is going on?!?
Pinterest – where had I been?
Up until the re-design of my blog and updating my social media channels, the great big P was a little unloved. I had around 300 pins, thought it was enough to pin 6 times every few weeks and wondered why nothing was happening. I now Pin daily around 20-30 pins at least, of things I really love. There’s a tonne of travel related pins, beauty products and smoothie bowls (I hope these will also feature soon on BBB). At the highest I had over 250,000 monthly unique views. To me, that was pretty special. I’ve also noticed a tonne of traffic coming to my blog from Pinterest, certainly worth persevering with and enjoying.
Jeffree Star & Annie Jaffrey
Swoon. They couldn’t be more different. I have been loving JS’s You Tube channel for ages. A colourful character who could be classed as completely misunderstood. Flamboyant, says it how it is. I cannot wait to try his foundation when this comes to market. After his series with Shane Dawson I am quite sure his subscribers will rocket. And then there’s Annie; glam, softly spoken, beautiful and does everything with class. A girl who lives a luxurious, clean living life, who boosts a beautiful wardrobe, accessible to most (Zara/ASOS/HM) apart from the Gucci and Chanel thrown in. Those we will have to save for!
5 Posts You May Have Missed…
Do let me know if you catch up on any of these posts. Or if you’ve already read them, what do you think? I am particularly proud of the tongue-in-cheek look I have written about friendship and feel most girls can relate to this.
Have a great day/evening everyone, I may make this a regular occurrence if this proves popular. Just think of this like little newsletter from a beauty Bean!
